What We Do

Special Events

The Foundation hosts four events annually, including three fundraisers and one donor recognition luncheon. Funding priorities vary for each event and are determined by the Foundation board and Unity Medical Center administration.

Programs

In addition to special events, the Unity Medical Center Foundation manages three endowments that support:

1. Patients

Patients are our top priority. We want their experience at Unity Medical Center to be comforting and convenient. We do this by ensuring that the hospital has state-of-the-art equipment and resources available to them.

2. Providers/Staff

Unity can't provide quality health care without its skilled and caring providers and staff. We want to ensure that our providers and staff receive support through scholarships, continuing education, recruitment and retention, and pipeline programs that inspire the next generation to pursue a health care career.

3. Health Programs

In addition to quality health care, Unity provides preventive health care education such as nutrition and weight loss classes, tobacco cessation classes and mental health programs that benefit community members. Examples include the annual Tree of Lights ceremony and the Embracing Hope event.

Donors may indicate one or more of these priorities on gift envelopes or check memo lines. Endowments pay out annually in perpetuity (forever). These endowments were created at the end of calendar year 2020 and began paying out in 2022.

UMCF endowment donors may take advantage of the North Dakota State Tax Credit:

Businesses (C corporations, S corporations, estates, limited liability companies, trusts and financial institutions) that pay state income tax may receive a 40 percent credit up to a maximum credit of $10,000 for contributions to a qualified North Dakota endowment. This state law became effective for taxable years starting in 2007, and 2011 for financial institutions.

Individuals may receive a state tax credit for a contribution of $5,000 or more (lump sum or aggregate in one year) to a qualified North Dakota endowment. The tax credit is 40 percent of the charitable deduction allowed by the IRS up to a maximum credit of $10,000 per year per taxpayer or $20,000 per year per couple filing jointly. This state law became effective for taxable years starting in 2011.
