Parkinson Disease (PD): LSVT BIG Program
Parkinson Disease (PD) is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement. UMC offers the LSVT BIG Program to assist people with PD.
This training is designed for people with PD and/or people with neurological conditions. The LSVT BIG Program is an intensive amplitude-based exercise program for the limb motor system. A re-education of the sensorimotor system. The goal for this program is for patients to use their bigger movements automatically in everyday living with a long term carry over of increased amplitude use.
The LSVT BIG Program is a standardized yet individualized program consisting of 16 sessions: 4 consecutive days a week for 4 weeks. Sessions are 1 hour in duration. Participants are encouraged and expected to complete daily homework practice and carryover exercises. Following the initial LSVT BIG Program, tune-ups are offered every 3-6 months following to ensure continuity of care.
